Lawn mower repair and tune-up costs: what to ask

On this page

A lawn mower repair quote can include diagnosis, labor, parts and transport. A tune-up price usually covers a different task from fixing a known fault. Ask what the charge includes before comparing providers.

Separate the charges

Diagnosis pays for finding the fault. Ask whether you owe that fee if you decline the repair and whether it is credited toward the final bill.

Hourly labor pays for time spent on the work. It is not the total repair price: a minimum charge, replacement parts or additional work may still apply. A fixed tune-up price can cover a defined package of maintenance tasks without covering the fault that brought you to the shop.

Pickup and delivery may be charged separately. Find out whether the quote covers both legs, how distance affects it and whether a machine that cannot roll or load normally costs more to move.

Published price examples

These examples were checked on October 13, 2026. They are local menu prices with different service scopes, not a national average or a quote for your mower.

Provider Listed charge Condition
Spokane Small Engine $84.99 walk-behind tune-up Parts extra
Mower Masters $119 push-mower tune-up $129 outside its standard area
Tupper $60 walk-behind maintenance Covers listed maintenance for a mower, pressure washer or tiller

The packages need not contain the same work. Open the operator sources on each profile to compare inclusions and ask about your model.

A diagnosis fee can change the decision

Mower Masters lists a $90–$130 diagnosis and estimate charge that applies even if repairs do not proceed. Spokane Small Engine lists a $20 estimate fee applied toward repair and notes that estimated equipment is returned unassembled. Ask how your machine will be returned if you decline the work.

Those conditions matter alongside the price. A lower quoted labor rate does not automatically mean a lower bill, particularly when a fault takes time to find or parts are unavailable.

Ask for a total and an approval limit

Give the provider your machine’s make, model, engine information and symptoms. Ask for a written breakdown of diagnosis, labor, parts, transport and any tax or other charge. If the exact total is not known, agree on the point at which the provider should contact you before doing more work.

Keep that estimate for the repair-versus-replacement decision. Compare it with the actual cost of a suitable replacement, including transport and the value of any equipment you would keep.

Find the right local comparison

Compare Knoxville providers or Spokane providers. Use the equipment and service filter first, then check the pricing source for the providers that accept your machine. For transport choices, read mobile repair versus pickup.
