Oil grade
- Kohler recommends its own oils; other high-quality detergent oils, including synthetic, of API service class SJ or higher are acceptable.[1]
- The manual’s chart pairs 10W-30 with the widest temperature range, SAE 30 with warm weather and 5W-30 with cold weather. Check the chart for exact limits.[1]
Fuel
- Clean, fresh unleaded gasoline of 87 octane (R+M)/2 or higher, and no older than 30 days.[1]
- Up to 10% ethanol is acceptable; E15, E20 and E85 are not approved. Do not mix oil into the gasoline.[1]
Air filter
Depending on the mower, the engine has a paper element with an optional precleaner, or a foam element. Replace the element every 50 hours or yearly and service the precleaner every 25 hours or yearly; do not clean a paper element with compressed air.[1]
Which engines this covers
- One owner’s manual covers all three models. A high-altitude carburetor kit is required at or above 4,000 ft (1,219 m).[1]
Not stated in these sources
- Spark plug part number (Kohler gives only size and gap)
- Air filter part numbers
